Labiaplasty - Genital Cosmetic Surgery: Benefits and Risks

According to the third issue of the 2013 Health Journey issue, more and more female clients receiving genital cosmetic surgery [GCS] can be partially explained by raising awareness of existing procedures. A wealth of useful information about these programs is available on the Internet and in some of the leading women's magazines.

Who is the best surgery candidate?

If you are troubled by the protrusion, shape or size of the labia minora, then labiaplasty is good for you. This procedure is good if your labia minora is particularly long or large and may experience some degree of discomfort when wearing tight clothing or physical exercise.

Some women are not satisfied with the appearance of their labia minora. It may be that one side may be larger or longer than the other side, or that childbirth has a negative impact on appearance. If you belong to any of these categories, GCS is useful to you because it also enhances your self-esteem.

Preoperative measures

Your initial consultation with a specialist cosmetic surgeon will allow him or her to conduct a clinical evaluation of your labia and discuss your detailed medical history. The surgeon will then discuss the surgery in detail, including early recovery and your personal expectations after the surgery.

A second consultation may be required prior to surgery to ensure that you fully understand the procedure and give you the opportunity to ask any further questions about the procedure.

Arrange for a few days away from daily activities in order to have proper treatment and rest after surgery. Also organize some people to pick you up after the surgery, because you must not drive.

Surgery

Surgery usually requires reducing the inner lip so that they do not protrude below the outer lip. The surgery was performed under general anesthesia and took only about 45 minutes. The surgeon uses the dissolved suture and the scar is very small.

Postoperative care

After surgery, you can only go home after you have recovered completely from anesthesia. The surgeon or anesthesiologist will prescribe some pain relief medications to prevent you from feeling slightly uncomfortable during the first few days after surgery.

Arrange for a person to accompany you overnight after leaving the hospital, so that you will not be nervous because of small housework. Your doctor will give you post-operative guidance that you should follow very carefully.

Benefit

According to the Journal of Sexual Medicine Vol. 8 In the sixth issue of 2011, the majority of women undergoing genital cosmetic surgery reported a subjective improvement in sexual function and overall body image satisfaction. The female GCS program seems to enhance the sexual experience of many patients to meet the desire for functional and cosmetic improvement.

Risk of complications

Like any surgery, genital cosmetic surgery also has standard surgical risks such as pain, swelling, infection, bleeding and scarring. Although it has been settled in about seven to ten days, bruises and swelling are common. Experienced surgeons will discuss all relevant risks with you in advance. On average, if you are healthy before surgery, the risk of any complications is very low.
